After a brief hiatus, the Diamond League will return this Friday and Sunday in Lausanne and Stockholm respectively for the most jam-packed weekend yet, and with it comes two new Fantasy DL competitions.

For many athletes, this weekend will serve as a final proving ground before most national championships and selection meets are held the weekend of July 8th, which is why the DL traditionally takes another break that weekend to let the national federations all host their champs.

Ethiopia is an interesting exception to the above rule — as they don’t host a national 5K qualifying race for Worlds, their athletes will be hoping to get in by having one of the fastest three times this year from their country. This makes the Men’s 5000m at Lausanne all the more exciting, as there will be incentive for Ethiopian legends like Muktar Edris and Hagos Gebrhiwet to push the pace to secure a team spot, despite the late withdrawal of world favorite Jacob Kiplimo.

It’s not the only event in Lausanne that could prove interesting — the men’s 1500m and women’s 400 hurdles will see the returns of superstars Jakob Ingebrigsten and Femke Bol hot off all-time marks, and the women’s 800m will be an interesting duel between two of the three likely medalists in Budapest in Keely Hodgkinson and Mary Moraa.

But after Lausanne ends, it won’t even be 48 hours until a series of other matchups will be taking place in Stockholm Sunday — the first double-header weekend of the year. Look out for world record holders Wayde van Niekerk and Karsten Warholm to run who have both already surpassed expectations on the comeback trail, and for Soufiane El Bakkali (men’s 3K steeple) and Letesenbet Gidey (women’s 5K) to both be looking for revenge after having their respective event world records taken in Paris.

Congrats to SOGGY for their win in the Fantasy Paris DL, which vaulted them up to first place in the overall league standings. Join via the links below, discuss on LRC and good luck!
