The Diamond League as always didn’t fail to deliver Saturday, featuring Mondo Duplantis’ eighth world record pole vault off the track while Gudaf Tsegay surprised trackside with the fourth-fastest 1500 m in history.
Thanks to you all, we have our first 2024 Fantasy DL podium as well in Will coop, annamarie002, and (for the first time) myself. You can view the full scoring breakdown here: https://hpr.github.io/2024/#/xiamen24/leaderboard Thanks to sponsor LetsRun.com for generously providing prizes for Xiamen and the DL final in Brussels.
Much of the action seen in Xiamen will continue this Saturday at 7am ET in Shanghai (actually held in Suzhou temporarily this year). It marks the first return of the Shanghai meeting since before the pandemic, and many of the athletes already in China for Xiamen will be sticking around one more week for Shanghai as well.
Of note will be a rematch between Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley in the 100m, where Coleman will be the favorite to repeat despite Kerley unexpectedly leading him 30 metres into their Xiamen matchup. Other Xiamen close finishes that may flip in Shanghai include Jasmine Camacho-Quinn versus new 60mH record-holder Devynne Charlton in the 100 hurdles, and Sha’Carri Richardson versus the field in the 200 as she lost Xiamen to the last-minute entrant Torrie Lewis.
In addition to the single-meet Shanghai scoring, as with last year there will be a league-wide standings and prize based on your place at each meet. The good news for late starters is that TrackBot sets the odds, and everyone who finishes behind them (in this case, if you finished worse than 35th in Xiamen or forgot to enter) you’ll be starting with a blank slate for league scoring in Shanghai. This allows people to miss a meet or two without being penalized too much, giving everyone a chance to win overall.
Click the unified link below and remember to submit your entries before the TV window at 7am ET Saturday, being sure to check that your submission was received by going to the “Submissions” page. Good luck!
